Interviews
Being invited to interview means the employer considers you a good match for the role. Interviews provide an opportunity to sell yourself and highlight your skills in more detail.
The experts at Peopleforwork offer the following advice…
Preparation is everything, before the interview you should:
- Research the employer to get a feel for what they do.
- Identify your main strengths and how these will match the employer’s requirements. Prepare examples of how you’ve demonstrated these strengths in previous roles.
- Ask Peopleforwork what format the interview will take – one-on-one, panel interview or skills-based practical testing. This will allow you to prepare yourself in advance.
- Prepare a list of questions which you may be asked and develop suitable responses. You should also prepare some questions, which you can ask the interviewer to demonstrate your interest.
Do some research and ensure that you know where the interview is being held and how you will get there. On the day of the interview, dress smartly and give yourself plenty of time to commute. Time keeping is extremely important, as is a good first impression.
Try to relax and remain confident.
If you have been asked to take along any documentation ensure that you do remember to take it, (such as your passport or qualification certificates).
If your experience appears to fall short, stress that you’re willing to undergo training to gain the skills you need for the job.
If you’re unsuccessful, call to ask for feedback and suggestions on what you can do to improve your interview technique.
